Christians are called to a life of prayer, and yet, because we question what we are doing, we either pray half-heartedly or not at all. The primary aim of this book is to encourage the reader to engage a life of prayer. To do this, the book seeks to provide answers to the kinds of questions which prevent us from praying as well as to offer a general overview of the purpose and goal of prayer. For those already active with prayer, the book seeks to encourage them to keep praying, to move forward in their spiritual life. Yet, the answers which we seek are best found in a life of prayer. We might need help to get us started and to help motivate us when we are beginning our spiritual journey, but any book on prayer can only serve as an introduction, a prolegomenon to prayer. What is needed is prayer itself, and no book can take the place of an active prayer life.
