Reseña del libro "National Conference on Communicating Sustainable Development Goals: Book of Abstracts (en Inglés)"

The Department of Media and Communication Studies, Jagannath International Management School, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, has convened its National Conference on Communicating Sustainable Development Goals to bring together experts from the academia, public and private sector as also NGOs, CBOs, Corporates and the Government to share with the participating students and faculties their views and experiences in communicating the Global Goals. The institute is a member of the United Nations Global Compact, New York and has taken upon itself the responsibility of incorporating the awareness generation and research into the achievement of SDGs in its curricular and co-curricular activities. Communicating Sustainable Development Goals Speaking in the Global Festival of Ideas for Sustainable Development organized in 2018 by the UN SDG Action Campaign in partnership with the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) with the support of the German Government, Ms. Cristina Gallach, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information remarked, "We have to make the world aware of this [...] agenda that is definitely going to transform the planet and that is going to ensure that no one is left behind." "The more we communicate about the SDGs and make people aware of the agenda, the more the governments will be accountable and will ensure that it is implemented," she added. However, the communication of the SDGs among the people in different countries has not kept pace with the expected levels so that there may be a critical impact on the achievement of SDGs. It is with this reality in mind that the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) has attempted to make this into a movement by bringing within its ambit non-governmental institutions: corporate organizations and higher educational institutions. The term sustainable development has been generally described as to achieve a sustainable society. This means a society in which economy and population size are managed in such a way that they do not do irrevocable harm to the environment by overloading the planet's ability to absorb waste and pollution, replenish its resources, and sustain human and other forms of life over a specified period of time. In a sustainable society, the needs of people are fulfilled without draining and depleting of the resources and thereby reducing the prospects of the present and future generations of humans and other species. The objectives of sustainable development often are mentioned as reviving growth; changing the quality of growth; meeting essential needs for jobs, food, energy, water, and sanitation; ensuring a sustainable level of population; conserving and enhancing the resource base; reorienting technology and managing risk; and merging environment and economics in decision-making. Though, some of the factors like maximization of economic growth are well conceived by the concept of development, but, the traditional developmental concept does not take into account factors like environmental degradation, the happiness of human beings and increase in social problems etc.
