Antibiotic resistant bacteria have already arrived on our doorstep which leaves us vulnerable to many infections once treated effectively by them. Antibiotics do not work on the many viruses that are running around, neither are they effective on fungal infections. In fact, the only reasonably effective treatment for viruses are vaccination and this is only limited to a few illnesses. Our innate and adaptive immune system, for the most part, can deal effectively with most infections which invade the body but what is the difference between the innate and adaptive immune system and how can we harness the power of this amazing part of our body which few people, give scant attention to. What happens when our immune system is struggling? Can we strengthen it so that it can do its job properly? If so, how? The author describes many of the antimicrobial substances which are readily available, in food which we can use to strengthen our own immune system at times of illness and when our bodily resources are compromised. She describes which common infective agents are susceptible to these. She also describes the difference between the innate immune system and the adaptive immune system and how they work together to defend the integrity of the body. Finally, she illustrates how some old-fashioned wisdom really shows that Granny knew best when it came to treating illness. A book full of wisdom and good sense for those who want an alternative solution to antibiotics and a remedy for those infections which do not have a satisfactory pharmaceutical answer.
